10 Ways to Open and Balance the Third-Eye Chakra

The Third Eye Chakra is probably one of the most popular chakras to open and work on. That is because it is so connected to our intuition and is the gateway to opening and developing your spiritual and psychic gifts. The Third Eye Chakra, also known as the Ajna Chakra. Here is what you need to know about the Third Eye Chakra and how open and balance it.


Location: Center of forehead, between the eyebrows


Color: Indigo


Purpose: Center intuition, spiritual insight, and higher consciousness


In Balance: When the Third Eye Chakra is in balance, an individual experiences heightened awareness, clear thinking, and the ability to see beyond physical reality. They possess a strong connection to their intuition and inner wisdom, and are able to make decisions based on their inner guidance. Physically, the eyesight is sharp and the mind is calm and focused.


Out of Balance: However, when the Third Eye Chakra is out of balance, an individual may experience symptoms such as headaches, confusion, anxiety, and depression. They may struggle with decision making, and their thoughts may be scattered and unclear. Physically, they may suffer from eye strain and poor vision.


Overactive: Having an overactive chakra can be just as harmful as an underactive chakra. That is why balancing the chakras is so important. When the Third Eye Chakra is overactive you may have difficulty focusing and feel overwhelmed by energies that you are perceiving around you. You may have hallucinations or be overwhelmed by visions of interdimensional energies. You may appear dreamy, air headed or "out of it" by others. In these cases, grounding is important.


Underactive: When underactive you may have difficulty dreaming or remembering your dreams. You will also have difficulty envisioning what is next for you or manifesting goals and aspirations. You also will have blocks to developing your spiritual and psychic gifts. Accessing your intuition will be limited or blocked.


To balance the Third Eye Chakra, there are several practices that can be employed:

  1. Meditation: Regular meditation, especially focused on the third eye area, can help increase the flow of energy and balance the chakra. Not sure where to begin with meditation? I recommend beginning with guided meditations to assist the mind in quieting and focusing. There are tons of wonderful videos on YouTube to choose from.

  2. Visualization: Visualizing a glowing indigo light in the third eye area can help energize and balance the chakra. Also, visualizing your goals and aspirations coming to fruition can be powerful for opening the Third Eye Chakra.

  3. Essential oils: Using essential oils, such as lavender, sandalwood, frankincense, or rose can help stimulate the third eye and bring balance to the chakra.

  4. Yoga: Practicing yoga poses that focus on the third eye area, such as the downward-facing dog, can help stimulate and balance the chakra.

  5. Diet: Eating high frequency foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as blueberries, can help support the third eye chakra. Adding chlorella, spirulina and wheatgrass to your smoothies or green drinks can help detox the Third-Eye.

  6. Deep breathing: Breath in from the top of your head pulling divine energy down into the third-eye chakra. Then breath in from the root bringing Earth energy up into the third eye chakra. Doing this type of interval breathing not only has a positive effect on the chakra you are focusing on but also has a balancing effect on the whole system.

  7. Crystals: Carrying and meditating with high frequency crystals such as Amethyst, Lapis lazuli, Labradorite, Clear Quartz, Moldavite etc.

  8. Non-Fluoride Toothpaste: Switch to a non-fluoride toothpaste such as Himalaya Botanique will help to decalcify your pineal gland.

  9. Sound Therapy: Use the frequencies 144hz, 852hz, 963hz to open and balance your Third Eye Chakra. Not sure how to do this? There are tons of YouTube videos with these healing frequencies.

  10. Dream Journaling: Having the intention of remembering your dreams and then writing down your dreams when you wake up is a great way to open the third-eye.
