Fire Cupping Aftercare
This article covers the aftercare recommendations based on your recent fire cupping session at Divine Spark. Please clarify with your Divine Spark practitioner what was released from your session based on your cupping marks immediately upon removal of the cups so that you can create balance in the body.
We recommend that you receive additional cupping sessions within 2-4 weeks for severe imbalances and to assist the body to come back into balance. Talk to your practitioner for specific recommendations based on your individual fire cupping results.
General post-care recommendations:
Keep the cupping marks covered by clothing and avoid extreme conditions for 24 hours:
Sun: keep cups marks covered by clothing, stay in the shade when outside and use sunscreen.
Cold & Windy Conditions: Keep covered, dress in layers, wear a scarf/hat to keep warm when cold.
Water: Do not go swimming, submerge in water or take a bath for 24-hours.
Drink lots of water- As this process moves fluids and will assist with eliminating toxins.

Meaning TCM: Healthy Circulation
General Meaning: Healthy
Color: Red
Meaning Thai: Excess Fire/Anger & Frustration
Meaning TCM: Moderate Stagnation
General Meaning: Excess fire can cause anger and frustration, red face or skin & high blood pressure.
Red/Fire Excess: Lifestyle Recommendations:
Avoid hot foods (both in temperature and in spiciness).
Cool foods down before consuming (don't eat when they are still steaming hot.)
Take a break from spicy foods for a while (at least a month).
Eat more raw fruits and vegetables or lightly sauteed and cooled down foods.
Add cooling foods such as yogurt, cucumber, mint, cardamom.
Avoid hot showers and hot baths (cool it down a bit.)
Avoid hot yoga and extremely intense workouts that create excess heat in the body.
Add in slower, more controlled workouts for a while.
Dress in layers so that clothing can be removed if feeling warm.
Stay in the shade when outside to avoid to much intense heat from the sun.
Swimming in cool water is good on hot days.
Color: White & Cold
Meaning Thai: Excess Wind
Meaning TCM: Qi Deficiency
General Meaning: Excess wind can cause anxiety, racing thoughts & pain in the body.
White/Cold/Wind Excess Lifestyle Recommendations:
Recommend oiling the body from the outside: rub ingestible oil (coconut oil, almond oil etc on skin especially the feet before bed
Oil the inside of the body: Eat oily foods like salmon, avocado, nut butters etc.
Warm the body with warm foods (in temperature).
Avoid cold or uncooked foods.
Move the qi with qigong, tai chi, yoga and Reiki.
Bundle up in the fall/winter to keep the body warm and avoid excess wind from coming into the body and dress in layers or bring extra layers to add when feeling cold.
Color: No color but wet
Meaning Thai: Excess Water
Meaning TCM: Cold or Dampness in the body
General Meaning: Excess water can cause fatigue, lethargy and depression/low mood.
Wet/Water Excess Lifestyle recommendations:
Recommend avoiding cheese/dairy for a month.
Add in purposeful movement to wring the water out and create heat in the body (sweat it out).
Excess water does NOT mean to stop drinking water but to remove overly oily foods from the diet that may clog the system and to get the system moving to naturally release excess water.
Add astringent foods such as ginger, turmeric, lemon grass, lemon and apple cider vinegar
Sweat it out at an infrared sauna or dry sauna (do not recommend steam saunas as it can add more water through the steamy environment.)
Color: Marbled
Meaning Thai: Moderate Stagnation
Meaning TCM: Moderate Stagnation
General Meaning: There is a moderate accumulation of toxins within this area. Blood flow is good but some work still needs to be done to support detox pathways.
Marbled/Moderate Stagnation Lifestyle recommendations:
Recommend avoiding cheese/dairy for a month.
Add in purposeful movement to wring the water out and create heat in the body (sweat it out).
Increase water intake to flush the body of toxins.
Remove over oily foods from the diet that may clog the system (fried foods, oily cuts of meats and cheese) to get the system moving to naturally release excess toxins.
Add astringent foods such as ginger, turmeric, lemon grass, lemon and apple cider vinegar
Sweat it out at an infrared sauna or dry sauna (do not recommend steam saunas as it can add more water through the steamy environment.)
Color: Purple
Meaning Thai: Excess Toxins
Meaning TCM: Severe Stagnation
General Meaning: The body has excessive toxins either due to exposure to toxic substances or due to issue with the liver or other detox pathways (or a combination of both.)
Purple/Excess Toxins Lifestyle recommendations:
Recommend increasing water intake to flush the system of toxins.
Eliminate toxins exposure for a while (alcohol consumption, cigarettes, other drugs or substances/environments that may have toxins.)
Add a regimen such as drinking green tea, more water and/or juicing to assist with flushing toxins from the body.
Add more organic fruits and vegetables to the diet, that have antioxidant benefits.
A short juice fast could be beneficial.
Talk to a health coach, naturopathic doctor or functional medicine practitioner about supporting the detox pathways and doing a detox regimen.
